I took a rental in today for comfort and so I didn’t have to worry about overheating. I first took a scoot towards Badger on the groomed trail (yes it is actually groomed). The trail is flat as a pancake and as far as I went, well covered. No problem to pick up snow off on the sides for slides and engine cooling. I suspect that any wide open areas may have bad spots though….but maybe not. Then I went in Cornfield and took the first right. Cornfield Rd, as you can see is ice but there are many places you can ride on the sides to pick up some snow. Besides, you really only have to drive 3 km of it. At first the trail was in really good shape for a trail ride. But as I got into the more open areas there were sections where I had to slow down to avoid bare spots. But I got by no problem. For the most part there is still enough snow in the woods to do some more technical riding between the trees and I was tempted but didn’t have the time or the machine (or a buddy for that matter). I checked out Hodges Trail and although the beginning was washed out, the rest of the trail was actually in really good shape. Again there were plenty spots I was tempted to make my way into the trees for a bit of fun. You can still pick your way to the last shoulder before the final accent to the peak, but that’s as far as you can get. I took a snap from there and as you can see Peace Valley is almost bare. This area goes quick during a mild as it fills up with water. All the same, from what I saw, the bogs and open country are nearly bare. It was a nice ride I must say, not winter wonderland but still good for a ride. Not the riding I usually enjoy but it’s a nice break not to be practically ripping my arms off my shoulders LOL. I have posted some pics of the good and bad. You will see both on a ride here now but 95% will be good. As for the ice…there is lots. I was all over several lakes today. To look at the bright side of things, we needed this, not so much but after the next decent batch of snow the ice will be perfect and we now finally have an awesome base down. Scratchers are a good idea. In a nutshell, take your machines if you are coming to the chalets. You might also might want to plan not to spend a little more time at the chalets as you probably wont be able to entertain yourself for 8 hours of riding a day.
