Very sore today!  The four of us (me, the Peyton Bros and Tom Caine’s) went to the White Hills – Barneys Brook area of the Gaff.  I had a full loop planned including Mary March Brook to show the boys around but we didn’t even get half way.  The riding was so good we couldn’t pass up the bowls and hills along the way.  We were waist deep and beyond all day!  It was more like a day on sea-doos rather than sleds!  The play spots along the sides of the plateau are just endless…..and impossible to pass by.  I’d say we had more miles from spinning tracks distance traveled!  Thanks God for our snow bungee because with about 100 stucks, at least, we wouldn’t have lasted the 12 hours or riding.  A long day indeed…..we were still on Barneys brook when we lost all light with a night ride back.  The boys were blown away by the terrain and the conditions.  It does not matter how good a rider you are, there  are countless lines that will be plenty challenging.  In all the excitement I managed to get a few good pics but if you look at Tom Caine’s (Gander) Facebook page I am sure he will have lots more.  We will soon have to plan another trip to show the boys a few more highlights the Gaff has to offer.

We have one chalet open this weekend due to a cancelation…..I expect it will go quickly after this post.  We also have some weekday openings for next week.  We are full during Mid Winter Bivver weekend but we do have one sled rental available.

Awesome Conditions

What a day on the sleds!  Tons of powder both on the ground and still falling.  I had a small group of 4 people out today who rode 2-up so we were a little limited as to where we could get but the conditions were superb!  One of the guys is a BC rider so he drooled all day looking at my sled.  He got a few good rips on it when we got to the hills though.  He thought the terrain here is much the same as the mountain riding he does in BC.  Heading to then Gaff on a personal trip tomorrow so I will be posting again to let you know the conditions up that way.  First trip of the year there so I am supper stoked!

Good Storm Today

And more on the way.  Come on with it!  Conditions should be perfect now!  Had an awesome day with the Caine’s Bros in Lewis Hills two days ago.  The boys are an excellent bunch to ride with!  Conditions were prime and it was nice to ride with buddy’s who know all the hidden gems.  It was a chilly ride out but a beautiful night.  Tom Caines has lots of pics posted but here are a few I took.  Its my second trip West this year….really nice to explore new terrain.  Back to the old stomping grounds on Tuesday though…..White Hills – Barneys Brook on the Gaff so you can expect an update after that as per conditions.  For those of you in Central, there are sled races in Lewisporte  tomorrow afternoon.  I am taking a day off sledding and heading there to watch some others have some fun burning gas.

Conditions still good

Well we haven’t been getting much snow but we haven’t lost any either.   The roads and trails are in great shape and the groomer has been going pretty steady with lots of comments on the ESA site about the trails being so smooth.  There is lots of snow in the woods for rippin around the hills.  You can go just about anywhere you want if you have the sled for it with at least a foot of soft snow on a decent base.  The only thing is we need more snow on 9 Mile Bog and Peace Valley.  One group from the chalets were up on the Gaff on Saturday and reported lots of snow there.    The sledding is great but hoping for a storm soon to fill in the gaps!

Awesome Ride Today!

Lots of fun today and lots of stucks (30 at least)!  We used the “Caine’s Toss” to get a few sleds out.  Thanks Caine’s bros for showing me that one.  For those of you who are not familiar, pick up the front of the the sled until balanced on end, rotate until you are pointed in the direction you want and let her drop.  Now Tom, try using reverse on a steep decent LOL!   It works great!  I rode with Jonathon Simon today but we met up with 5 riders from Lewsiporte who stayed at the Monica Chalet last night.  We all had a ball today but not everyone was within their comfort zone LOL.  Lots of lines but need at least 5 more feet of snow to open up all the usual lines.  Sounds like a lot but in there one or two decent storms and we will be top notch!  I’d say there is 4 to 5 feet of snow down so far.

Yesterday was a good ride as well.  We had a group of 6 out, two single riders and two double so we didn’t do anything extreme.  As for conditions it depends on where you are.  On the South  side of Hodges there is plenty snow but the beaten trails are hard.  Its been snowing a bit here and there so its been improving steadily, especially today.  We do need more though so come on with another storm!  The group, from CBS and avid West coast riders were very surprised at the terrain in the hills.  They will be back for sure!  Nothing changed on the open country like Peace Valley and 9 Mile….still need more snow but passable.   Overall, conditions are pretty good and off trail it is very good.
