My second experience with Rafting Newfoundland came near the end of the Fleetwood Mac tribute tour. After over a week of travel and hotels we arrived at the Riverfront Chalets about three in the afternoon. It was warm for April and although the river was still frozen the gang took advantage of the outdoor hottub! We were thrilled to be there just as the river was about to open up from the winter freeze. That night we had our first home cooked meal in over a week and Paul lit a fire down by the river. Next day before soundcheck we snowshoed up to the second falls on Leech Brook. That river was in full spring flush and was quite the sight. Along the way we caught sight of a crow chasing a bald eagle away from a fox skeleton - not a familiar sight to a townie. It was very hard to go back on the road the next day. The new Chalets were totally excellent - three of us to a cabin was more than comfortable and everything from the cooking utensils to the linens and towels were first rate. And right outside the window all of nature's glory. My first experience with Paul and Joy came on my sixtieth birthday - my "surprise" gift was rafting down the Exploits. It was the perfect day - 32 degrees and full summer sun. I had the time of my life - I've always been a little bit obsessed with rivers and the Exploits is the grandaddy of them all. I had such a great day that I now figure a day on the Exploits with Paul and Joy will have to be an annual event. And even though we never did get to see "the ice crack and the river rush/ like a prisoner about to escape" if I may quote Ron Hynes, I think the spring break-up on the Exploits will be another event on my annual calendar. Paul was good enough to send pictures when the ice finally did give way. I tell everybody I run into about the rafting, chalets and great hospitality I enjoyed at Rafting NL. For me it's a new home away from home. `The Riverfront Chalets at Aspen Brook are truly the Jewel of the Exploits.......`

Chalet Rental - Snowmobile Tour

Paul and Joy were our hosts for a most enjoyable weekend snowmobiling in Central Newfoundland. The first day we conquered Hodges Hills and day two was a tour across the Gaff Topsails. We were pleased to get great snow conditions for the end of March and even saw a caribou herd on the Gaff. Paul showed us some great riding places such as Mary March Brook that could be a very interesting play spot for next season. The accommodations were 10 out of 10. The new chalets are warm and welcoming with all you need for a perfect stay. From the Jacuzzi tub to the relaxing sofas and a fully equipped kitchen and BBQ, each chalet is ideal to prepare a great meal. And to top is all off, the hot tub overlooking the Exploits River is an amazing way to unwind after a day of great snowmobiling. Paul and Joy’s tours and accommodation are second to none. The tour to Hodges Hills and the Gaff topsails is definitely one of the top three snowmobile destinations in Central NL. I can’t wait to go back. Thanks Paul and Joy for a great trip.

Day 7 of our Newfoundland honeymoon, and what an eventful day it was! River rafting with Paul and Mike from Badger down to the Riverfront Chalets which was our home away from home for the night. The rafting was great, it never got boring or "tour like". With every change in water formation, there was something new and exciting. There was supposed to be a water fight between the two rafts, but it seemed that our raft was every man for himself! It didn't take long before the first victim went overboard. By the end of the trip everyone was in the water on occasion, some more than others of course. Along with the rafting there was loads of swimming, including this one place in particular. Just before lunch we stopped off at a great little swimming spot, where you could jump in and the current would pull around in one big circle. Paul and Mike knew the river like the back of their hand. The lunch was fantastic! Wouldn't have packed it any better ourselves. We mixed up the boat crews a little bit and got a chance to do some surfing in the rafts, and all I can say is "ride the bull!". As if the rafting wasn't enough, the chalets are simply amazing! Hardwood, and ceramic throughout. Full kitchen with great appliances, two bedrooms, satellite, DVD player, bbq on the deck. Hottub, boot dryer, and did I mention Jacuzzi?! The mattresses are so comfortable, and there is so much natural light. On top of it all, you don't even need to call CAA if you lock your keys in the car, Paul and Mike had it covered. Thanks Guys! Should be 5 star!

Hi Paul! Have to say that the six of us had just the absolute best time ever this past weekend at your place! The chalets were perfect and the river tour was the most fun we've had in a long, long time! LOVE the hot tub and adore your beautiful dogs. You, Joy and Mike are perfect hosts and guides and we all felt so safe during the trip. Well all except Dana that is but that just couldn't be helped...! What a wonderful place to relax. From the moment we walked in the chalet, it was great. It was hard to even leave and go outside for awhile. Just wanted to enjoy it but the scenery outside was also nice. Your dogs became our friends. They were so gentle. We didn't want to leave this place. We have told many people about it so I think they will be staying there in the future. We will see you again for sure. Great, great spot you have. Thank-you for a lovely weekend.

Hi Paul: It was indeed a pleasure staying with you at the chalets. Having met you, Joy and Dorothy made it all the more special, after all, it's people who make the difference and warming up to you folks was not difficult. Now, having stayed with you once I'm sure we're going to look forward to staying with you again as the chalets make it ever so comfortable. The surroundings made our stay easy, the outdoors is by far the most preferable environment for any one of us and being so much in the country, alongside the river made it special. For Wayne and I at least, pursuing a few hares made it fun, and for Byron looking for rail road ties made it profitable. I know Ray enjoyed his 2 hour walks along the rail bed. Seeing so much wildlife was a bonus. A Goshawk got one of our rabbits one morning and that was worth seeing. You have grey owls too! The bald eagle make daily rounds and still there were enough hares that I was seeing 6 or more a day. Ruffed Grouse were plenty, other bird sightings included all the regulars and if you wanted to simply excite bird watchers you'd be able to run a business on that. The TV got turned on only to watch a DVD after our performances in the late night, other than that the big windows in the chalets were our view of the world for a week and the channel never had to be changed. It was always interesting. By now you might realize that we are all inclined to be outdoor enthusiasts and perhaps we may avail of your rafting or kayaking services come summer, we'd love to see the place in full summer bloom. I personally got a great break in staying at the guide cabin. I'm thinking to myself that it's a great model on which to erect one similar somewhere, I don't know where yet but I'd love to have that thing up in the country behind my house. I think my wife would put me on the missing persons list. Your daughter was singing "I'm the king of the castle" standing on a stone outside your house one day when I dropped over for something, anyway, your children will have a lovely spot in which to grow up. King of the castle is appropriate. Your two dogs are great company as well. That's the thing about dogs which are allowed to be themselves, they become ever so much more enjoyable. Yours are secure and independant, full of personality and easily befriended. I'd always want animals like these around. We'll do what we can to promote your business and spread the word. If you can use any of this note as a testimonial, go ahead. I don't mind a bit. Well see you next time we're doing shows regardless. Thanks again.

We did the river rafting tour with Rafting Newfoundland last summer and had a blast. It was awesome. When we found out the chalets were open we couldn’t wait to try them out. We were looking for a nice, relaxing, stress-free place to unwind and we definitely found it. The chalets are absolutely beautiful with everything you could possibly need at your fingertips. The quality is top notch. The service was second to none. Paul and Joy certainly catered to all our needs and then some. They even invited us to a fire by the riverside. We opted for a ride in the UTV which we thoroughly enjoyed….even saw a hawk and way too many rabbits to count. We absolutely loved the hot tub…it was the icing on the cake and catapulted the 4 1/2 star into a 5 star experience. We’d definitely recommend this place to anyone and will be back for sure. Whether you want to just relax or if you have a more adventurous spirit and want to enjoy the great outdoors, this is the spot for you!

Paul, Joy, Mike and Ella, We wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we had on the rafting tour as well as the stay at the Chalets. Our Newfoundland experience was one of the best due to the fact that the hospitality is second to none. There were eight of us and we stayed in two Chalets (I would definitly give them a five star). We have travelled to places such as Cuba, Mexico, Jamicia and we always plan some kind of adventure while there, I would have to say that our rafting adventure was the most fun that we have ever had. In fact our whole vacation to Newfoundland was just as much fun as any of our southern vacations!!! Thanks for the memories! I would highly recommend it to anyone! You guys have got some great ideas and your place is absolutely the best vacation spot I've been in so far here on the rock, or the maritimes actually. And when I think about it, I enjoyed it even more than that time I went donkey riding through the hills in Cyprus to an old monastery. Seriously, you guys have a great thing going on and your hard work and dedication definitely shows that you love what you do. It was like going home to relax for a few days and you definitely don't get that at a lot of places. And besides enjoying the toilet paper, I think that your knowledge, attitude and the way you make people feel so at ease is bang on. Keep doing what your doing, cause you definitely got the right stuff.

Dave and I stayed at the Riverview Chalets this past weekend. A wonderful young couple, with a huge vision, most of which they have already attained. Once the landscaping is finished this place will be perfect. The chalets are remarkable for their quality, the beds are super! The young couple are very, very friendly and accomodating. They let us book in early as we had to do some business in Grand Falls. The hottub is great! In the evening, Joy brought us over some movies to watch, which was very kind of her to do! Thanks for that! The location of this place is great for all seasons! Well done! We were too late in-between seasons to take in any outdoor activities but perhaps we will try the rafting next summer. We highly recommend these chalets! Extremely well-equipped! Well done! It is wonderful to see young people with such a vision! Good luck!

We had the most beautiful chalets with a great view of the frozen river...the outdoor hot tub was just out of this world!! Awesome weekend! First class chalets and excellent services. The snowmobile tour was fantastic packed with scenic trails and wildlife. Joy had prepared a homemade meal which Paul warmed up for us when we stopped for lunch. Paul catered to our every need and made sure our ride was enjoyable and safe. When we got home, the hot-tub was unbelievable - after all day on the trail, a soak in the tub eliminated all the aches & pains. Overall, a fabulous getaway ... we are already booked for another snowmobile trip next winter AND are looking forward to our first rafting trip in August as well.

Our day started on the Exploits River. The water was high, the waves were big, the adrenaline was rushing! As we reached our take out point we began to anticipate the night ahead. We were heading to the 4 ½ star chalets at Riverfront Cottages. As we rode down the driveway towards our home for the night, the sense of invigorating adventure of the days previous experience, quickly gave way to an atmosphere of relaxation. The luxurious cabins were such a welcome site, but what now? Hot tub? Campfire? Or explore a little with a stroll along the old railbed, past brooks, and quaint ponds. Further adventure will have to wait! We opt for a nice soothing soak in the jacuzzi, then a BBQ and refreshments with friends, all while taking in the majestic scenery from the deck overlooking the river. The friendly resident pooches keep us company while we sit back and take it all in. Later in the night we all gather round the campfire. Out come the guitars, and Paul plays a mean drum! Who could ask for more? I wake the next day to realize i pulled off a 9 hr unbroken sleep. The comfy beds make it hard to pull myself out of my slumber, but when the forest fresh breeze blows gently over my face, the guilt gets to me. OK, i'm up already! We finish off our vacation with a ATV ride along the Trans Canada Trail. Wish we had more time to explore, the trails and woods roads seem to go for miles in every direction. But that gives us reason to return...next time we'll stay longer! When staying here, be sure to take in the river rafting. A fun filled day with good food, great people, and lots of opportunity to get some great photos to show off to your not so fortunate friends. Thanks Paul and Joy, looking forward to our next trip!

Stayed at the chalets on a business trip for 4 nights. Wonderful spot-wireless internet, two seperate rooms which made it more economical than a hotel and a hut tub! What more could be needed. The scenery and people were fabulous, the accomodations were outstanding. My only regret - I didn't have time to go rafting. Oh well, there's always the next trip! We have been staying at the chalets for a couple of visits this summer, and have loved every aspect of the trip. The atmosphere is amazing, the chalets are beautiful, and the hospitality of both owners makes you feel right at home. Two of the kindest people I have ever met, and that goes a long way when travelling away from home. Evenings on the river are beautiful, the scenery, bbq, and hot tub give you a little taste of heaven. The rafting trip is amazing, and Paul and Mike are excellent guides and their professionalism gives you the security to really get the most out of your trip. I highly recommend staying here and would give the overall rating of 5 stars!!!

July 31st! Oh what a day! I felt like a kid again! Our family had the pleasure of enjoying the day rafting the Exploits! This was our first trip and certainly not our last! Right from the moment we arrived we knew it was going to be a great day with great company, great weather and superb guides. The whole day was just perfect beginning with the introductions (ha!), the water canon fights, the badger shute swim; bull riding the surf; floating down the Exploits; the great relaxing lunch and oh yes rafting the rapids! We had a great time and will be back again next year…with lots of friends! We have shared our great day with lots of people…you may be hearing from them. Have an awesome summer!
